The works give a face and voice to a group of young people, offering a poetic and profoundly empathetic insight into their imagination and the reality of their daily life.
The project, designed as a group creation, was produced with twenty-four children placed in care by social services at a children’s home in the Gers département, south-west France. It was shown for the first time in summer 2025 at the Lectoure art and photography centre.

Interweaving poetic and political questions, the research work conducted by Anne Desplantez combines photography and visual art to create a multi-facetted, fragmented and non-reductive vision of human experience and what it means to be together.
Parce que. Ici. (Because here) bears the hallmarks of this collaborative synergy, capturing the uniqueness of each child and combining them to form a harmonious whole. The resulting work is profoundly meaningful and a celebration of diversity. The children have taken a brave step into a concrete form of resistance by allowing their emotions to be exposed, without pretending to be something they’re not, but with infinite modesty. That rawness gives the project its political dimension, rooted in the question of togetherness in a society that often marginalises, and sometimes isolates. With infinite subtlety, it prompts us to wonder about the limits of a system set up initially to protect our children through to adulthood, but which, crushed by neglect, struggles to survive.
